Welcome to Derrick Lanois, Ph.D.

Derrick is an activist, scholar, filmmaker, and journalist at the beginning of his careers. His philosophy on life, career, and activism has been influenced by several historical figures such as Harriet Tubman, Maria Stewart, Tupac Shakur, Prince Hall, Patricia Hill Collins, Layli Maparyan, Jacqueline Rouse, Akinyele Umoja, Booker T. Washington, William E. B. Dubois, Ida B Wells Barnett, and others.

Even geniuses ask questions.“——Tupac Shakur

“I freed a thousand slaves

I could have freed a thousand more

if only they knew they were slaves.”——Harriet Tubman

“I’m not saying I’m gonna change the world, but I guarantee that

I will spark the brain that will change the world.”——Tupac Shakur

I hope to invite students to ask questions and free themselves to engage solving the problems of tray that the African American community, humanity, and the planet are facing in the 21st century. I won’t be the one that will change it but I hope I spark the minds of the people who will be able to change the world.
